Within a therapeutic relationship, it is most important to have trust with mutual respect where clients feel safe to ask question and self-disclose without judgement. Both client and therapist share in treatment planning.
My client centered approach is based on the principles of Cognitive/Behavioral and Dialectical/Behavioral Therapy along with Solution Focused and Reality Therapy within a family system orientation. I use both a supportive and interactive style that includes teaching new skills and providing clients the tools needed for improved communication, managing stress, making difficult decisions, and implementing desired changes in one's personal life. Handouts, role play, outside resources and homework assignments are utilized in therapy sessions.
